Colgin has developed a natural reaction when he feels water coming close to his head. He holds his breath as if he were about to be dunked into water. We read online that 3 month old babies will naturally hold their breath when put underwater so we tested that theory about 4 weeks ago. The theory is true, but now when Colgin feels water on this forehead he will automatically hold his breath even though he's not in water. Check out the video and his hilarious facial reactions!

Colgin Almost Laughing
So one day my mom came over and bought Colgin a cow toy which made him laugh for the first time. Usually, he just smiles and talks, but this time he was giggling. We tried to make him laugh ever since but we failed. We finally made him laugh, but we pulled out the camera too late. This is the video of the almost laugh.

Colgin Goes to Brandon's 7 year B-Day Party
Minimalist Parenting?
colgin doesn't have many toys. not because we are trying to be minimalist parents. although - i did at one point believe a kid could be happy with a stick and ball (ethiopia trip only proved it more). i do realize poopy is not in ethiopia and his friends will not be playing with only sticks. but i also think it's finding that balance - not living too extreme on either spectrum. although i have to admit that my spectrum sits a bit on the conservaitve side, especially when it comes to diet (boo to high fructose corn syrup or anything as highly processed as that, but jsut don't tell me it's in my food and i'll eat it...see? balance! hahaha). but yes, i believe in an occasional splurge or 2 (ummm...but no splurges for scatter-brained new mommies who may lose nice watches and blue-tooth earpieces within days of receiving!) tangent. back to toys. i guess we just haven't had time to buy him toys so when my mother-in-law bought him a vibrating cow, he FREAKED and had a laughing attack. pang of guilt overcame me at the moment. but it was a joy to see him react like that and i'm convinced he wouldn't have had that reaction if he was hoarded with toys all the time. so yeah - i opened the chest of toy gifts that were given to him at my baby shower and his 100 day celebration. interesting but he wasn't so impressed by any of them except the organic toys in the picture below. how about that? he picked the organic ones. hahahha.

Correction...and more pictures
yo daddy - poops measured 25.5" long at the appointment, not 23" :)
since i am posting, i may as well add a few pictures:
here are colgin's shots from the appointment (2 purple bandaids on his thighs). the nurse said he was the best 4month old she had ever seen right after the shot was given! soldier boy!
here is a picture from the houston chronicle capturing the insane mother who was crazy enough to bring their infant out to the july 4th celebration at 104 degrees heat. it was worth it - we got to watch andrea perform some songs and then the national anthem at the end right before the fireworks
here is poopy in the new audi a5. we were at the dealership looking at suvs since this little guy's ride takes up so much space in our trunk. we ended up demo-ing my dream q7 for the weekend but gave it up on monday after our friends (christine and christian to name a few) knocked some sense into us. man. sense sucks. now i guess we are looking into hondas and mazdas. :P

Colgin's 4th Month Appointment
When Colgin was first born he was definently smaller than most babies. Now he's 75% in length and 75% in weight. His head size is 50% but that's pretty normal from what they say. His weight is 16 lbs and height at 23 inches.
correction: height = 25.5"

Scarface

Well as you can see Colgin is now sitting in the bumbo cause his neck is now strong enough to hold his head. If you look closely you can see the big scar on the side of his face. This scar is my fault(daddy). I put him down on the sofa for 20 seconds to wash my hands and the next thing I notice when I return is that he fell sideways and onto my folder. When I lifted him up he had a huge cut on the side of his face from a paper cut. My heart was melting when I saw it bleeding and Jade was steaming like a volcano.(some people will get this but not all) Well here's the pic. Enjoy. It looks a lot better now.
Colgin swims!

WOW!
Possible UT student?
One of our rare family photos together
Colgin hugs his bird toy to sleep
Colgin with towel on headMan, as I scroll down this page it's really apparent to me how much my boy has grown. I guess if you see someone everyday all day, you don't really notice any change. The only way I can tell that Poopy has gotten any bigger is that his clothes that fit before are way too small and clothes that were baggy are now fitted.

CHEEEEEKS
now that i've returned to work and patrick has his hands full with poopy, we haven't posted anything for a while now. colgin is now over 12 1/2 pounds and he has golf ball sized cheeks! he sleeps regularly through the night now and goes back to sleep for another 3 hours in the morning after his 1st feeding. patrick and colgin meet me for lunch every day at work so going back to work hasn't been so bad. we take him out a lot to meet friends or run errands since he is pretty well behaved (even though he always wants to be held when we are with a big group of people since he knows SOMEONE will pick him up as long as he cries). it only becomes a problem when we go eat crawfish and have to put him down until we finish and get our hands cleaned. he starts crying and everyone looks at us like bad parents who choose crawfish over crying baby. and we try not to look at him since it makes him cry more, so it looks like we aren't even acknowledging him as we devour our tasty crawfish. :) oh well. crawfish season is almost over. he'll be priority again soon when we go out to eat.

Good Morning, Poopy! You gave us sleep!
Ok - I think I (Jade) am officially going to take over the blog :)
So our little poopy has been naturally figuring out day vs. night finally! Out of the past 6 nights, 4 of the nights he gave us 5-6 hours of sleep! And last night, he had a 6.5 hour stretch! We had just bought the controversial book "On Becoming Babywise", but had not started applying its principles before Colgin started learning naturally so one less book to read for us. Here he is this morning after giving us much needed rest and taking ~7-8oz of milk. He wasn't talking as much by the time I grabbed the camera but next time I'll be diligent about recording when he does.
