colgin doesn't have many toys. not because we are trying to be minimalist parents. although - i did at one point believe a kid could be happy with a stick and ball (ethiopia trip only proved it more). i do realize poopy is not in ethiopia and his friends will not be playing with only sticks. but i also think it's finding that balance - not living too extreme on either spectrum. although i have to admit that my spectrum sits a bit on the conservaitve side, especially when it comes to diet (boo to high fructose corn syrup or anything as highly processed as that, but jsut don't tell me it's in my food and i'll eat it...see? balance! hahaha). but yes, i believe in an occasional splurge or 2 (ummm...but no splurges for scatter-brained new mommies who may lose nice watches and blue-tooth earpieces within days of receiving!) tangent. back to toys. i guess we just haven't had time to buy him toys so when my mother-in-law bought him a vibrating cow, he FREAKED and had a laughing attack. pang of guilt overcame me at the moment. but it was a joy to see him react like that and i'm convinced he wouldn't have had that reaction if he was hoarded with toys all the time. so yeah - i opened the chest of toy gifts that were given to him at my baby shower and his 100 day celebration. interesting but he wasn't so impressed by any of them except the organic toys in the picture below. how about that? he picked the organic ones. hahahha.
